Rector of the University of Banja Luka Prof. Radoslav Gajanin, PhD, and Ambassador of Greece in Bosnia and Herzegovina Dimitrios Papandreu talked on 11 May 2021 about the opening of the Greek Corner.
During the meeting at the Rector's Office, the Ambassador handed over a donation: about 500 books in Greek.
Rector Gajanin emphasized that the Greek Corner will most likely be located within the Faculty of Philology of the University of Banja Luka. According to the rector, in the forthcoming period, all activities will be undertaken to have the Greek Corner equipped as soon as possible.
„We also discussed the intensification of cooperation between the University of Banja Luka and the University of Greece. We already have excellent cooperation with several universities in Greece, especially with the University of Macedonia and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki“, Rector Gajanin said and thanked the ambassador for the donated books.
Ambassador of Greece to BiH points out that the Greek Corner should be opened in Banja Luka to improve education and cultural cooperation between the Republic of Srpska and Greece.
„The purpose of such a Greek cultural centre would also be to enable the learning of the Greek language to pupils and students who are interested in it. Such a corner already exists in Doboj, and another one will soon be opened at the Faculty of Philosophy in Pale“, Papandreu said and announced that the Week of Greek Culture will be organized in cooperation with the University and Faculty of Philology from 25-29 May 2021 in Banja Luka.
It was also agreed to conduct a survey at the University on the interest of students in learning Greek.
The meeting was also attended by Vice-Rector for Scientific Research and Development of University of Banja Luka Prof. Goran Latinović, PhD, and Dean of the Faculty of Philology Prof. Biljana Babić, PhD.
