Faculty of Electrical Engineering
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Banja Luka grew out of the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering in Banja Luka, established on 24 November 1962. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the increasing needs for electrical engineers led to the establishment of the Department of Electrical Engineering as a separate faculty. In this regard, on 12 February 1975, the Assembly of Employees of the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering made a decision to separate the Department from the Faculty of Engineering, and on 28 March 1975, this decision was approved by the Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. On 24 November 1962, the People’s Committee of the Municipality of Banja Luka issued the Decision on Establishment of the Faculty of Engineering with the Department of Electrical Engineering. This is considered as the date of establishment of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Banja Luka. The following year the Department of Technology was established. In that academic year 1962-63, 113 students were enrolled, 48 of whom graduated. The number of enrolled students increased thereafter, with around 200 students being admitted per year.
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of Banja Luka is the leading institution in the Republic of Srpska in regard to education of personnel in the field of electrical engineering and computer science. It is recognizable by the high-quality teaching process, the results of scientific research, as well as by its participation in professional and scientific projects. In view of the fact that the personnel educated at this faculty are very sought after in the job market and important for the development of the Republic of Srpska, the goal is to educate a greater number of experts while maintaining and advancing the studies at all three cycles. In improving the teaching process, measures related to the development plans of the Faculty are taken, and they include: improving the efficiency of studies, ensuring the quality of studies, simplicity and flexibility of the teaching process, fair assessment of students’ results, preserving the dignity of professors and students, gaining long-term knowledge, simpler administering of the teaching process and support to mobility of students, teaching and administrative staff. A very important aspect focused on is scientific research. For this purpose, measures taken relate to the development of scientific research at the Faculty, improvement of partnership with the business sector, development of international cooperation in the field of scientific research and technical activities, and support and rewarding for the results achieved in scientific research. An important segment of the work of the Faculty is the development of resources, especially human resources, as well as the improvement of infrastructure, material and laboratory conditions and the enhancement of the work of administrative and technical units. In their work, but also in their development plans, students are at the centre of all activities. Special attention is paid to providing the best possible conditions for their study and stay at the Faculty, as well as supporting the work of student organisations and different forms of extracurricular activities of students.
