Sociology of the marginal groups

The course introduces students to the understanding of the social process of marginalization - social causes that lead to the creation of marginal groups, social characteristics of marginalization and the consequences of excluding individuals, social groups and communities from different systems of society (democratic - legal, labor - market; social benefit system, family system and local community system), the dominant cultures, the distribution of power in society, and the insecurity of their social position. Also, through this course students acquire knowledge about marginal social groups or sections of the population (or at risk of marginalization), as well as with social mechanisms that seek to overcome the problems of marginalization (ways of integrating marginal groups into society).

The student who passes the exam is able to recognize the causes of marginalization and perceive marginal groups / or social groups at risk of marginalization in Republika Srpska / BiH (problems they face, lifestyle and lifestyle, etc.), to analyze the consequences of marginalization and make concrete proposals on how to integrate marginalized groups into society.

Definition of social marginalization and marginalized groups; Criteria and levels of social marginalization; Causes of marginalization; Social characteristics of marginalization; (Sub) culture, counterculture, and deviance of marginalized groups; Social exclusion; Poverty and the poor; Unemployment and the unemployed; Marginal ethnic groups (problems and possibility of social integration of Roma); The position of the elderly in society (problems and ways of integration into society); The position of young people in society (problems, deviance, subculture, counterculture); Migrants, displaced persons and refugees (problems and ways of integration into society); The concept of the disease and the way of responding to the disease (position, problems and way of social integration of persons with disabilities); Social mechanisms to overcome the problem of marginalization; Trends in the development of contemporary society and the fate of marginalized groups.

Lectures as a form of transferring systematic knowledge from the literature. During the lectures, a power point presentation of the main theses and illustrations of some examples will be used. Illustrations and exercises.
In addition to the examples to be discussed, the classes will also work on examples (problem solving) that will illustrate and practice certain topics (group and individual). Illustration and exercise involve two-way communication, and students are invited to express their opinions freely about the illustration and exercise case. Discussion of cases from practice. The main form of work will be to process case studies in order to teach students to use the acquired knowledge for practical purposes. Creation and presentation of seminar work with obligatory application of methodology for the preparation of professional papers.
