The University Continues with the Activities on Open Access to Science

Meeting at which accession of the University of Banja Luka to the Network of Researchers of the Data Archive for Social Sciences in Bosnia and Herzegovina (DASS-BH) was discussed was held on 14 July 2020 at the Rectorate.

In his introductory speech, Vice-Rector for Scientific Research and University Development Prof. Goran Latinović, PhD, pointed out the benefit that researchers of social sciences and humanities have from accessing the data archive, and Vice-Dean for Scientific Research of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering Prof. Vladimir Risojević, PhD, presented the basic principles of open science and the challenges of data management in the social sciences and humanities.

Anđela Pepić, Head of the Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer Centre and contact person at the University for DASS-BH, presented the activities of DASS-BH, as well as the importance of assuring quality and securing the data from the social sciences and humanities. Among other things, she pointed out that the University of Banja Luka has free DASS-BH services, such as depositing data from its own research into this archive, using data that has already been deposited, free participation in trainings, assistance to master's and doctoral students in providing access to databases, and taking part in the preparation and implementation of research projects.

Moreover, at the meeting the following activities were defined: organising training for employees and students of the University on copyright and related rights in research with a focus on sharing primary data, and developing a training plan for master's and doctoral students to use data archives, as well as the possibility of establishing a data archive (repository) of the University of Banja Luka that would be linked to DASS-B.

This meeting was also attended by Prof. Saša Šmulja, PhD, Vice-Dean for Scientific Research of the Faculty of Philology; Prof. Siniša Lakić, PhD, Vice-Dean for Scientific Research of the Faculty of Philosophy; Assistant Professor Ognjen Erić, PhD, a representative of the Faculty of Economics; Mihajlo Savić, PhD, a representative of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Dragana Radulović, Senior Associate for Scientific Research at the University of Banja Luka.
