The formal academy, on the occasion of the 9th anniversary of the successful work and development of the Faculty of Security Studies at the University of Banja Luka (FBN UNIBL) was held on the 6th of March 2026. At the event, 49 first-cycle graduating students were promoted.

The Rector of the University of Banja Luka, Prof. Radoslav Gajanin, PhD, congratulated the Faculty of Security Studies on its anniversary and pointed out that, although it is the youngest faculty at the university, it does not lag behind in any field of work.

“The Faculty selected its staff very carefully. The best students were engaged as assistants”, said the Rector, and added that the FBN UNIBL was the first faculty of our university to organize dual studies with a Russian university.

“This faculty is characterized by its exchange and cooperation with professors from other countries. The faculty shall continue to enjoy our full support in the future as well”, said Rector Gajanin.

The Minister of Interior of the Republic of Srpska, Prof. Željko Budimir, PhD, said that the cooperation of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Srpska (MUP RS) and this higher education institution is at the highest level, and added that capacities will be reinforced in the coming period.

“Students who graduate from this faculty often find their employment in the MUP. The cooperation is also going on during the studies. The Government and the Ministry are partners of the University, and practical classes envisaged in the curriculum are taking place in the police (ministry)”, said Budimir.

He also said that the capacities of the Ministry will be expanded in the coming period, so there will be an intensive cooperation with other faculties as well.

“The Faculty of Security Studies graduates fit well in the Ministry of Interior system. They become good leaders, managers, and employees. Our cooperation continues in full capacity”, said Minister Budimir.

The Dean of the FBN UNIBL, Prof. Predrag Ćeranić, said that there is a large interest in enrolment into this faculty, for, besides the theoretical knowledge, it offers practical skills as well.

“I believe our major success is that, after nine years, we kept the interest of the young people, and we are about to open the third cycle of studies”, said Ćeranić at the event that gathered numerous guests and dignitaries, including the Vice-Rector for Teaching, Students’ Issues and Quality, Prof. Milica Balaban, PhD, and a Financial Director, Duško Lazić.

The Faculty of Security Studies was established on the 6th of March 2017. It is a legal follower of the Higher School of Interior Affairs of the Republic of Srpska. It emerged through the transformation of the School of Interior Affairs into a full member of the University of Banja Luka.

The students are provided with modern education in the spheres of general, legal, security, criminalist, and police sciences, in order to acquire skills necessary to perform complex tasks in all security bodies in the Republic of Srpska and BiH.
