University of Banja LukaGeneral

There was great interest in the lecture ,,Chinese Development and the Belt and Road Initiativegiven by Ambassador of PR China in Bosnia and Herzegovina Ji Ping on 14 June 2019 at the Faculty of Security Sciences of the University of Banja Luka.

Ji Ping expressed his satisfaction that he was given another opportunity to come and visit the University of Banja Luka and inform the students in more detail about the development of China as well as of the Belt and Road Initiative and cooperation within the „17 plus 1“ program.

„Two months ago, when I first came to the University of Banja Luka, Rector Radoslav Gajanin invited me to come again and exchange my thoughts with students. My goal is simple – to inform the students about China, the Belt and Road Initiative and cooperation within the `17 plus 1` program“, the Ambassador said.

Vice Rector for Scientific Research and University Development Prof. Goran Latinovic, PhD, said that in the past year the University signed cooperation agreements with four higher education institutions from China.

„Academic cooperation between the Republic of Srpska and China is on a high level. We expect Chinese students and academic staff to visit us, as well as that Chinese universities will receive our students and staff“, Vice Rector Latinovic said.

Dean of the Faculty of Security Studies Assistant Professor Predrag Ceranic, PhD, pointed out that the Chinese Belt and Road development program covers more than 60 countries worldwide, and that the ’17 plus 1’ Initiative, covering the entire Balkan, is especially interesting for this region.

Further to this, Ceranic stressed that the leaders of the Republic of Srpska have recognized the messages of China and that the Government’s decision to have Chinese language taught in primary schools in the Republic of Srpska only contributes to the development of these relations.

„The Confucius Institute has considerably contributed to these relations, and the results can be seen within the University of Banja Luka“, Ceranic said.

On behalf of the University of Banja Luka, the Vice Rector for International and Interuniversity Cooperation Prof. Biljana Antunovic, PhD, welcomed everyone present at the lecture.

The Confucius Institute at the University of Banja Luka organized this lecture.
