The ‘Open Day’ event at the University organized on 18 april gathered 2,000 final-grade secondary school students

In his address at the ‘Open Day’ event organized on 18 April, gathering 2,000 final-grade secondary school students, Prof. Radoslav Gajanin, Rector of the University, reminded the present of the fact that the University was the leading and oldest higher education institution in the Republic of Srpska, with more than 20,000 students both from the country and abroad currently enrolled. So far, there have been 31,500, 1,150, and 645 bachelor, master’s, and PhD degrees issued respectively, with 350 master’s degrees gained since the introduction of the Bologna Declaration system in 2007.

Furthermore, Rector Gajanin reflected upon the quality of teaching process at the University, as well as upon the benefits for the graduates, pointing out that the latter are provided with an opportunity of traineeship at their respective faculties and possible position on the staff.

Mr Dane Malesevic, Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Srpska, advised future students to be wise about choosing their profession, recommending them technical faculties, such as Electrical, Mechanical, and Civil Engineering respectively.

Mr Igor Radojicic, Mayor of the City of Banja Luka, joined in welcoming addresses, saying that the city authorities were interested in having young people studying in Banja Luka, and that they could choose between a wide range of study programmes. He also pointed out that the city lived on the energy of the young, with the events like this one attracting new generations to both the University and the city.

Talking about the Students’ Parliament, the reasons why one should attend the University of Banja Luka, and extra-curricular activities, Mr Branko Trninic, Chairman of the Students’ Parliament of the University, accentuated the comparative advantages of Banja Luka as an academic, sports, and nightlife hub of the region.

The event was attended by Dr Predrag Damjanovic, Director of the Pedagogic Institute of the Republic of Srpska, Vice-Rectors of the University, and other officials.

After the addresses, the final-grade students were organized a tour of the faculties, where there were provided with basic information about study programmes, entrance exits, and students’ life.

The event was organized from 15-26 April, making it one of the greatest students’ projects in the Republic of Srpska this year.
