On May 24, 2017, Ss Cyril and Methodius Day, the Faculty of Philology celebrated its 8th birthday with a series of events, addresses and promotion and award-giving ceremonies.
Prof. Mladenko Sadzak, Dean of the Faculty, introduced the audience to the history of the Faculty, as well as to the future activities, putting emphasis on the improvements and innovations of the teaching process, broadening library collections and legates, and organizing various academic events. Prof. Sadzak added that the Faculty organized several international conferences each year, published the Philologist journal and other material, with the Centre for Translation and Foreign Languages operating under the auspices of the Faculty since 2016. On top of that, the Faculty had established rich international network of partner institutions, and it is an active participant in numerous international projects and programmes, the Erasmus+ being the most prominent one so far.
At the moment, the staff of 80, along with 12 visiting professors organize the teaching process for approximately 1,100 and 100 students on the first and second study cycle respectively, with the start of the third cycle in the forthcoming academic year.
As for the future activities, there are plans of establishing a school of Serbian for foreigners and a translation workshop to serve the needs of University and Government of the Republic of Srpska, as well as of Slavic studies.
