University of Banja Luka Progressed by 1673 Places on the Webometrics World Ranking

In the past two years, the University of Banja Luka has progressed by 1673 places on the Webometrics world ranking (Webometrics Ranking of World Universities).

According to the updated Webometrics report, the University of Banja Luka has progressed by 246 places between January and July 2019, and is currently ranked 3161st among the world universities and second among the universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

According to the July 2017 Report, the University of Banja Luka was ranked seventh among the universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina and 4834th among the universities worldwide. The University of Banja Luka has been ranked the second among BiH universities since July 2018, following the University of Sarajevo, which has been ranked the first.

The first 26 places worldwide on the Webometrics world ranking are mostly held by US universities. The first is Harvard, which has held that place for years, followed immediately by Stanford University, and is closely followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). As for the European universities, the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge ranked best. Regarding the universities in Serbia, the best rankings are held by the University of Belgrade, University of Novi Sad and University of Nis.

The Webometrics University Ranking is a ranking system based on university web presence, visibility and an indicator of the global academic performance and prestige of the universities. The Webometrics is a recognized ranking system for the world’s universities, developed and updated twice a year by the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group of the Spanish National Research Council.

The aim of the web indicators used in the Webometrics methodology is to provide reliable and comprehensive evaluations of the impact the volume of the Web content of universities’ activities and results has globally, i.e. the relevance and impact of their web publications. The Webometrics ranking of a university depends on the volume and quality of the available and transparent content this academic institution generates, from highly cited web publications to all other contents including reports, conferences, theses, seminars, digital libraries, and other publications of the respective university and its faculties, departments, researchers and students.
