6TH International symposium AGRORES 2017

University of Banja LukaGeneral

Organized by the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Banja Luka, the 6th International Symposium on agricultural sciences and 22nd Conference of agricultural engineers of Republic of Srpska were held from 27 February to 02 March 2017 in Banja Luka.

The Faculty organised these events in cooperation with the Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Agriculture of the University in Novi Sad, International Centre for Advanced Research in Agriculture on the Mediterranean – Mediterranean Institute of Agriculture in Bari and Institute for Genetic Resources of the University in Banja Luka.

At the opening ceremony, the President of the Organisation Committee, Prof. Gordana Đurić, said that this type of scientific conference at international level contributed to developing the agriculture of the Republic of Srpska through the exchange of domestic and foreign experience in the field of agricultural production. She reminded that, this year, there were more than 300 participants from 12 countries, including the USA and EU, who tried to provide response to the current challenges in different fields of agriculture.

The Rector of the University of Banja Luka, Prof. Milan Mataruga spoke at the ceremony on the issue of the projected world population number reaching 10 billion until 2050 and said that the solution required interdisciplinary approach.

Prof. Nataša Poklar-Ulrich from the Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana, and Prof. Mladen Todorović from Mediterranean Institute of Agriculture in Bari pointed out the importance of the cooperation of our Faculty and University with their institutions through joint projects and staff exchange.
Additionally, the ideas of the organisers were supported by the representatives of the Ministry and local government. They were particularly interested in dealing with the issue of importing great amount of food into the country, despite huge potentials in the field, since they were afraid that European integration process would probably make the situation more complex for domestic producers in agriculture.
Finally, the Conference continued through round table discussions on plant and animal production, presentations of certified products quality, presentations on management of sustainable agricultural resources, etc.
