Reminding the present of the fact that the first INDEL was organized in 1997, taking place biannually since 1998, Prof. Branko Dokic, the Chair of the Organizing Board of the Symposium, pointed out that the idea for such an event had been conceived right after the 1992-1995 civil war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. ‘We, the staff of the Faculty, realized that we had an obligation and challenge to preserve what we could regarding the tradition of electronic industry in Banja Luka, but also to promote new trends in the field’.

Though at first realized at the level of the Republic of Srpska, it soon spilled over its borders, gathering international experts from the field, with each conference being marked by a specific topic. ‘This tenth conference, a jubilee, sees fifty-nine papers submitted, out of which fifty-six is accepted. Each of these papers were twice, some of them even thrice peer-reviewed, the reviewers themselves prominent names in the field’, pointed out Dean Dokic, adding that some interesting topics were being discussed, singling out the topic of electric vehicle. He also drew attention to two panel sessions, one of them dealing with the process of digitalization in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the other highlighting the role of solar energy in production of electric power.

The participants were also welcomed by the Rector of the University, Prof. Stanko Stanic, expressing special gratitude to those participants coming from other countries and cities, saying that their acceptance to take part at the conference meant that they had recognized how serious, organized and thorough the Faculty was in its commitment to scholarly work.’

Mr Igor Radojicic, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska, declared the conference officially open, maintaining that it was not an easy job to ensure the continuity of international events in the field, adding that it was exactly this sort of activity, apart from its regular scope, that provided an upgrade in the dealings of the Faculty. The task being a very difficult one, because the field of electronics represents the one that keeps changing almost on a daily basis.

The ceremony was also attended by the Minister of Science and Technology and Minister of Education and Culture of the Government of the Republic of Srpska, Prof. Jasmin Komic and Prof. Goran Mutabdzija respectively.
