ERASMUS MUNDUS – exchange programme

Since the academic year of 2011/2012, the University of Banja Luka has been participating, through six projects, in the Erasmus Mundus student and staff exchange programme

The Erasmus Mundus is a cooperation and exchange programme in the area of higher education, whose aim is to improve the quality of European higher education and promote the dialogue and understanding among people and cultures through cooperation with third countries. In addition, the programme contributes to developing human resources and international cooperation capacities of higher education institutions in third countries by increasing the level of exchange between the European Union and these countries.

The Erasmus Mundus programme provides support to:
- Higher education institutions interested in conducting joint postgraduate programmes (Action 1) or establishing inter-institutional partnership between European universities and third countries (Action

- Individual students, researchers and members of staff who would like to participate in the aforementioned programmes in terms of study visit/research/teaching

- Any organization active in the area of higher education aiming at developing projects whose goal is to increase profile attractiveness, visibility and reputation of the European higher education across the world.

The Erasmus Mundus programme is one of seven programmes of the European Commission incorporated into the new Erasmus+ programme.


The Erasmus Mundus 2009-2013 is a cooperation and exchange programme in the area of higher education aiming at:
Improving quality in European higher education; promoting the European Union as an excellence centre for learning across the world; promoting intercultural understanding through cooperation with third countries, as well as at developing third countries in the area of higher education.

The Erasmus Mundus 2009-2013 (Decision Nr. 1298/2008 EC) continues and expands the scope of activities of the programmes started during the first phase (2004-2008). It now incorporates the Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Window, started in 2006, as a complement to the original programme.


The Erasmus Mundus 2009-2013 is realized through the following actions:
Action 1: The Erasmus Mundus joint programmes of exquisite quality at master (Action 1A) and doctoral (Action 1 B) level, including scholarships for participation in these programmes
Action 2: The Erasmus Mundus partnerships between European higher education institutions and higher education institutions of third countries, including scholarships for exchange at all academic levels
Action 3: Promotion of the European higher education through projects intended for increasing the attractiveness of Europe as an educational destination and centre of excellence at the global level.

Programme management

The European Commission is responsible for conducting the Erasmus Mundus 2009-2013 programme. It manages the budget and sets priorities, goals and criteria for the programme. In addition, it runs and monitors general application of the programme and evaluates the programme at the European level.

The EACEA is responsible for conducting the Erasmus Mundus programme.
